Andy Holmes - Barnsley Town Concert Band
Andy began playing cornet aged 9 with the Horden colliery band in his native north east becoming the bands principal cornet aged 14. He gained a Bmus (hons) degree from the University of Huddersfield where he studied under Phillip McCann.
After graduating Andy went on to teach both classroom music and instrumental lessons in the north east whilst holding the principal cornet chair in several bands. Andy Joined the Black Dyke Band in 2003 on Repiano and went on to win back to back British open and European titles. In 2006 he was invited to join the Grimethorpe colliery band on Flugelhorn and held this seat until 2013, winning The National championships of Great Britain and Brass in concert titles. During his time at Grimethorpe, Andy was featured as a soloist in concerts and on many CD recordings. He performed at the Proms concerts at the Royal Albert Hall,The opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics and was featured as a soloist live on Radio 2.
After leaving Grimethorpe and their busy schedule behind to start a family, Andy now plays principal cornet for the Hepworth band as well as Flugelhorn/Trumpet in the Austonley Brass dectet. Andy is also the lead trumpet player with 'The Prince Experience' the U.K.s no.1 Prince Tribute band. Andy has performed alongside many artists including The Unthanks and Kate Rusby. He has recorded extensively for CD and TV including the premiere recordings of concertos for both trumpet and flugelhorn.
